What’s the best tech gift you’ve ever received at Christmas?

What’s the best tech gift you’ve ever received at Christmas? 1920 1280 Timewade

What’s the best tech gift you’ve ever received at Christmas? And what’s the one gift you’re hoping for this year? Managing Director, Julian Wills, asked some of his colleagues at Timewade and got some surprising answers, from ‘vintage’ game consoles to tech to help cut the lawn. But what were his choices…?

Christmas gifts past, present and future

Christmas is timeless, isn’t it? From how we decorate our houses to what we eat for Christmas dinner, much of the way we celebrate has barely changed over the years. At Timewade we love tradition, but we also love innovation, and if there’s anything that really excites us at Christmas it’s unwrapping that shiny new piece of tech that Santa has left for us under the tree.

To celebrate, we asked our team for the best piece of tech they’ve ever received for Christmas, and what new piece of tech they’d most like Santa to bring them this year. Their responses were surprising, and more than a little nostalgic…

Adrian Sage, Support Analyst

Q: What’s your favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: Going back some time ago, back to the 80s, a Commodore 64!

Q: What one piece of tech would you most like to get this Christmas?

A: VR for Playstation 4 – Borderlands.

Ah yes, virtual reality – what an exciting development in the gaming world. Adrian wasn’t the only one of our team to mention it, either…

Alistair, Finance

Q: Favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: Playstation 1, my first console of my own growing up.

Q: One piece of tech for this Christmas?

A: The Playstation 4 VR, Beat Saber looks like a lot of fun.

Susan, Human Resources Manager

Q: Favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: The Atari Video Computer System, with Space Invaders and Asteroids. I’ve still got it in the loft amongst the rest of the junk –  maybe it is worth something now!

Q: One piece of tech for this Christmas?

A: Hmm, hard one this. Actually, I would like a Tech-Free Christmas with good old fashioned games.

It’s unsurprising that games consoles featured so heavily in the responses, but other members of our team were a little bit more “outside the box” with their ideas…

Ian, Centralised Service Analyst

Q: Favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: My first ever digital watch with a ‘countdown’ feature like retired United States Special Forces Colonel John Matrix has in the movie “Commando”.

Q: One piece of tech for this Christmas?

A: I’d love a robotic nanny, or a time machine! But if we’re sticking to real devices, then I’d like a Worx Landroid.

Very sensible, Ian. Who wouldn’t want a robot mowing their lawn for them?

George, Senior Service Desk Analys

Q: What’s your favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: Sega Mega Drive with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Q: What one piece of tech would you most like to get this Christmas?

A: An F35 Lightning II.

Err, we’ll see what we can do…

Carl, Service Desk Analyst

Q: What’s your favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: The Atari Console. This gaming device was like the future had arrived – it got me interested in all things tech and made me the tech geek I am today. Before this device arrived you had to walk miles to the arcade just to have a few goes on a games machine…

Q: What one piece of tech would you most like to get this Christmas?

A: I’m way ahead of you, Santa – I already treated myself to it. It’s the Google Nest Hub Max, and it allows me to play music, control lights, turn on/off televisions, ask general questions, receive calendar reminders and traffic updates, and make phone calls from any room in the house via voice command.

Isn’t it amazing how one piece of tech can change your life? Finally, here are Julian’s answers to the questions…

Julian Wills, Managing Director

Q: What’s your favourite piece of tech you’ve had for Christmas?

A: Has to be the Nintendo NES with Duck Hunt as a kid. Hours of fun.

Q: What one piece of tech would you most like to get this Christmas?

A: My list to Santa has been completed and posted to the North Pole. Top of the list is a pair of Apple Wireless AirPods.

Well I do hope that Santa makes it to the Timewade offices next week with his sack full of Playstation VR sets, automated lawnmowers and F35 fighter jets.

It’s amazing hearing stories of how technology has the power to inspire us, and how much of an impact new tech can have on our childhoods. Whether you get that shiny new gadget for Christmas next week, or if like our HR Manager Susan, you’re having a good old fashioned tech-free festive season, we’d like to wish you a happy Christmas 2019 on behalf of all the team at Timewade.
